Monday Night 3321 Chapter 14

Comprehension, while understanding what you are reading is important you also need to understand what you write. Learning and understanding to write well and pay attention to what the author is saying is key in developing a good reading and writing relationship.

Monday Night 3321 Chapter 13

Lterary circles: should be lead by the students, normally used with good quality books that can interest anyone, for something like this I would probably use a classic literary work for my classroom something like Shakespeare or Austen. The students should be given sufficient time to act out scenes from the work, disscuss various things they liked or disliked, and be able to anser questions amongst each other.

Again I feel William Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet or even Twelfth Night would make a good literary circle title. It would give them plenty to disscuss and think about. Also acting out a scene from the paly would be easier. However, I favor Jane Austen most of all her literary works would also give a good informational about the time frame, but it would still give the students plenty to disscuss and process. So either of these authors to me would make a good choice..

Monday Night Chapter 12

Independent Reading.. yay.. This is why I love reading and buying young adult novels my classroom library will be packed with great titles and every student will find something they like.. This is a great way to help your students find books that will interest them, it will also give them one-on-one time. By reading independently the students can engage each other by doing book reports or projects to present to the class, also allowing them to learn from each other..

Great titles for Independent Reading: Ally Carter's Gallagher Girl series. A private all girls school known as the Gallagher Academy For Exceptional Young Women, is in Fact a school for future female spies. What better series for anyone into books of this kind. Another author would be Rick Riordan, and his Percy Jackson & the Olympians series. Generally more for a middle school reading level; however, for those who aren't able to read at a high school level this series would be a good one to read.. This series is also being made into a movie release date is Feb. 12, 2010..

Monday Night 3321 Chapter 11

Guided Reading is normally done in small groups: the goal is to use various forms of literature to help the students comprehend the material.
This time I thought a good author to read about would be Scott Westerfield, he writes sci-fi for adults but also writes young adult novels like the ones featured below. Each series is different usually all of them deal with some type of paranormal characters. These books tend to hold your interest because some deal with subject that are true issues within society. The Uglies series for instance takes place in the future, where upon your 16th birthday you undergo a mandatory series of cosmetic surgery to which you can't get out of, making everyone beautiful. These novels are directed at teens and some even preteens.

Monday Night 3321 Chapter 10

This chapter talks about read alouds.. This is generally where the teacher reads to his/her students. The students usually pay more attention to the content and story this way and tend to enjoy it. Another thing talked about in this chapter are the shared readings, these generally tend ot involve both the teacher and the student taking turns reading, allowing the student to become more comfortable being an independent reader.

Read alouds can be from any book that the students and the teacher can agree upon, I would say it's probably better to choose a book more highly popular at the moment, allowing the students who can't afford to buy the book or have a hard time reading at that level the opprotunity to be apart of the action.

Currently the most popular title is The Twilight Series.. With this you could probably also do a movie day towards the end of the semester as a reward with the schools n parental consent.

Monday Night 3321 Chapter 9

Non-fiction... Usually biographies, Diaries, and historical books fall under this category. The Non-fiction genre tends to disscuss social needs, cultural aesthetics, historic narratives, and lifes lessons. While normally non-ficiton leans toward a more adult audience it has evolved over the years to include a younger audience.

Many more notible works of non-fiction for teens would include The Diary of Anne Frank: the story of Anne and her families struggle during the Nazi invasion, told through the eyes of a young girl. Anne was young when the events happen, but her passion was writing so she kept a diary that was later found amoung their belongings and later published. Another one is Uncle Tom's Cabin, the story follow 3 slaves and their experiences in and out of slavery, taking place in the pre-civil war time of the south.

Monday Night 3321 Chapter 8

Fiction comes in many different forms. Romance, Suspense, Horror, and Sci-fi are some of the more popular forms; however, many books could fall under various genres, making hard to like only one particular type of fiction. Usually students of all ages are able to find something they like within the Fiction area..

I prefer Young Adult novels, not only does reading in this particular category help keep me informed of hot new titles that would ensnare a teens interest, but it also helps me build my library up so that I have books in the classroom for the students to use..

James Patterson, is best known for his Mystery Thriller books; however, recently he has ventured into writing young adult novels, usually with a suspense feel to them they keep the readers hooked every step of the way.
